When we talk about preprocessing, we don’t just mean file preparation.
We consider the preprocessing phase to include both analysis and file preparation.
We first look at, analyze, the source files to identify what needs to be prepared, checking for potential issues that could impact the processing of the files by the CAT tools as well as be carried over into the target files before proceeding with the actual file preparation.
We also check that all linked elements (images, fonts, etc) have been provided with the source files in order to inform you in advance and allow time to receive these before layout commences.
We are all used to receiving all kinds of source files from end clients, who are often not aware of the preprocessing step. You, LSPs – on the contrary – are, that’s why Foliage Solutions has developed a strong preprocessing workflow to assist you:
an analysis and file preparation is always done on the native source files, no matter the format, before sending them to you for translation to identify and fix any issues that could be carried over into the target files, maintain a clean TM and facilitate both the translators’ and DTP specialists’ work.
We recommend the preprocessing step even if DTP layout after translation is not required.
